Spanish Movies

Spanish movies are full of entertainment. There’s story, plot, and of course, great acting, periodo. So, if you’re an enthusiast like me,  then you need to watch these high-rated Spanish movies.

El laberinto del fauno/ Pan’s Labyrinth

Directed by Guillermo del Toro, this dark fantasy has an 8/10 iMDb rating, and for a reason. The story showcases how children escape reality by diving into an imaginative world. Ofelia, the little girl, finds herself befriending Fauno, a creature she finds as she dives into a labyrinth.

This fantasy-based plot with phenomenal cinematography is simply alucinante(mindblowing), and it surely is one of my go-to films. If you’ve come across a character holding its eyes in its hands, then it’s from this film.

The good thing is you can watch this on Cox Contour TV via Prime Video. If you haven’t subscribed to it, then call their customer service. If you’re a Spanish speaker, you’ll find Cox Servicio al Cliente caters to your needs instantly.

Volver

Starring the fabulosa(fabulous) Penelope Cruz, this dark comedy scores 7.6/10 on iMDb, and will definitely make your time worth it. Yes, it’s a bit slow but as the story unfolds, you’ll surely find the plot satisfying.

This movie is also recommended because it explores the Spanish cultural norms in great detail. It highlights how the women in this culture deal with society while controlling their emotions after facing a trauma as impactful as the death of a loved one.

Volver is available to watch on Netflix and Prime Video, so you can download it or stream it without any hassle.

Mar Adentro/ The Sea Inside

Starring the asombroso(amazing) Javier Bardem, this movie will definitely make you shed a tear. The plot, the acting, the determination of the character played– everything is just beautiful and mesmerizing.

The story focuses on a man who’s paralyzed following an injury. Even though he keeps up with the life he has, he decides to take fate into his own hands and end his journey. However, the story focuses on the triumphs of his remaining life along with his family.

I would surely recommend watching this movie when you’re feeling down as it’ll definitely strike some motivation in you. With an 8/10 iMDb rating, it’s available to watch on Amazon Prime.

Amores Perros

From the year 2000, with an iMDb rating of 8/10, Amores Perros is one of the best films directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Director: The Revenant, Birdman). This movie surely brings a great deal of characters together that set the plot just right.

With different characters, it’s not easy to bring them together but Iñárritu does an incredible job, using a car crash to bring together a dogfighting participant, a magazine publisher, and an assassin. Cool, right?

How the plot unfolds is simply surreal, and it completely binds you to the story without a doubt. The good thing is Amores Perros is available on Netflix to watch, so you can easily add it to your watch list.

Relatos Salvajes/ Wild Tales

If you were amused with the story of Amores Perros, then you’ll definitely be impressed with this one too. With a star rating of 8.1/ 10 on iMDb, this movie will hit the emotional bar.

The amazing thing about it is that it focuses on how common people face everyday struggles and how their emotions pile up until let loose. It kinda resembles Love Death + Robots but it’s more realista as it brings a unique perspective to anthology cinema.

It’s available on Prime Video, and you should add it to your watch list.

Hable con ella/ Talk to Her

This movie will make you scratch your head as it starts and ends at the same theater location. But what’s more intriguing is the open-ended narrative that makes you ponder about the plot.

No wonder it has a 7.9/10 on iMDb, and it does deserve more in my opinion. Again, this movie focuses on combining different characters, two males attending their sick wives. With the engaging conversations, you feel like listening to the stories en tiempo real(in real time).

The show of obsessive love from both the characters will make you judge your partner for sure. But it’s all in the movie; don’t take it too seriously. Anyway, it’s available to watch on Netflix, so if you’re planning a binge-watching session, then this should be on your list.
